Flux coating is the protective layer applied around the core wire of a welding electrode. During welding, the flux melts and creates a protective gas shield around the weld pool. This shield prevents oxygen, nitrogen, and moisture from contaminating the weld. Flux coating also improves arc stability, weld penetration, and slag formation.
